Die, IE6, Die!!!

Shows the data. I agree that it would be better if it died sooner. Internet Explorer 6 (IE6). The default Browser that shipped with Windows XP. Bad browser. I’m not going to say that the people who still use it are bad, but I will say they are not as learned as they should be for internet usage. Not only is IE6 a security threat, it is a boon to us web developers. Look at almost any modern webpage, look in the source code, and I will guarantee you will see at least one hack per page to allow “proper” functionality with IE6. That’s right. Hacks. Sometimes pages are completely re-written, or scripts re-written just for IE6? Do you like to see the same look of a web page regardless of what browser you are using? Then stop IE6 from living on. It makes my jobs take almost twice as long (if I’m being paid hourly, that’s great…but typically I’m not).
So what are the alternatives? Anything! Firefox 3, Safari 3, Opera, even Internet Explorer 7 (Windows Update) is better (though still not standards compliant). If you are using Windows XP (which I still recommend over Vista if you have a choice), then make sure you upgrade to any other browser.
Spread the word. Kill IE6.
