Best Online OCR service I’ve found 0

Posted on February 14, 2011 by admin

Ever have a client deliver photocopies of a document with lots of data that you’d love to be able to use in your project, but don’t want to re-type it all out (or have a data entry clerk type it out)? I have a couple times. I first used this service about a year and a half ago, and need it again. I searched my emails and Google for a while until I found it again. I really like the quality of the OCR, and the final (useful!) output format of the document – even spreadsheets/excel/XLS files!!!

So, without further ado, I present:

3DS Max on FirePro v4800 0

Posted on February 03, 2011 by admin

This blog gets visited daily with traffic related towards performance of 3DS Max with Radeon HD4870 or FirePro v4800 – as I’ve done a few comparisons and benchmarks of both.  And Thanks to daniel1Z from YouTube for asking about it – I decided to share with the world.

I no longer have the 4870 card to compare, but thought I’d throw up a new scene for you all to test and compare with (full of primitives which are a little bit random), to see if this card is right for you.

Like I said in the original benchmark – overall performance between the two cards is roughly the same – but the FirePro v4800 shines in wireframe mode, as well as shaded + edges mode, vs. the radeon.

CAD/Parametric Modeling (Alibre) coming to Loklo 0

Posted on December 01, 2010 by admin

So I decided that I will be adding Alibre Design to Loklo’s workflow in the New Year. It won’t get used much, but at $99 for the entry level package, it will offer some additional modeling capabilities. If you’ve never used a parametric modeler like Alibre, Solidworks, ProE, Inventor, etc, all modeling is defined mathematically, instead of with verts and faces. So I would create a circle, with a given radius, then extrude it a given amount, then chamfer the edges by a small amount. All of these numbers (parameters) are accessible down the modeling process – making it easy to get exact parts modeled, as well as the ability to change the dimensions afterwards.

I’m currently using the Pro trial for a little testing and freelance job – but it’s easy to get hooked on the Pro features (compare $699).

Stay tuned for more.

Blender 2.54 Handwriting/Curve Growth Mini Tutorial 2

Posted on November 01, 2010 by admin

I figured out how to grow curves, and essentially how to achieve a handwriting effect in Blender 2.54 using the build modifier.

Watch the video to learn the very simple technique. (watch in 720p HD for best quality – it was recorded at close to that resolution).

If you found this tutorial useful, consider donating so I can make more!
