As a snowmobiler, I decided to donate the time necessary to update the website for the Sicamous snowmobile club (Eagle Valley Snowmobile Club), giving them the features of a CMS system, instead of the old Frontpage/FTP system.
They now have the simplicity of logging in at their convenience and updating necessary pages like Grooming updates, or Events/News as needed, without the need to wait for someone who knows how to do it. The new site also gives them a consistent design from page to page, and more flexibility and speed compared to the old one. Several users have generously commented on the usability and speed of the site, as well as the content, and that it’s up-to-date. The new site is also much more SEO friendly, with pretty URLs, proper HTML structure, and separation of design from content.
The site is based on CMS Made Simple – my favorite CMS backend system. I prefer this over Joomla and WordPress.
The new site is based on an existing (customized) theme – so I can’t take credit for much of the design. Just the setup, and some customization in colors, and CSS fetaures.

I’ve finally taken the time to make the menu on Loklo’s main site work properly as a drop down. My previous solution, which avoided the drop down worked, but wasn’t effective. Now the traffic should flow a little better to the sub pages. I’ve also updated the titles of some of the menu entries… might tweak pages and menus a little more, though.

So, you’ve got a business, and your starting to get some momentum – Great! Have you fully embraced Social Media? Remember the post I put a short while ago, with the video about Social Media? [here] Hopefully you’ve taken some action, and are getting social on at least Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and maybe even LinkedIn or Empire Avenue.
Loklo just joined Empire Avenue yesterdy – my stock price has already doubled!! Anyway… it’s a fun and free way to ‘trade’ shares between other users, and to become more social, share other people’s interests, mix and mingle, etc etc. I highly recommend it – plus, it aggregates all your social media together, making it a hub for others to find all of your profiles/pages/blogs/updates/etc.

This is weird… look at the picture of Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) using partial pixels to align objects/images/css background images:

Now compare it to the others (Firefox 4, Safari 5, Chrome 10ish) – Safari and Chrome are nearly identical, as they’re both using the WebKit engine. Firefox is similar to Internet Explorer… but ooooh so different.

ideas? I haven’t run through the validator yet to debug the codes… but I thought it would be interesting to put this up there anyway.
update (before I even publish) – the code is 100% valid XHTML and 100% valid CSS… hmmmmm.
Feel free to comment!
